White brick house in New Castle with a new gray shingle roof and a Tabor sign in the lawn

Help with an insurance claim in New Castle, Indiana

When wind or hail damages your roof and an insurer may pay for the repair, our part is the roof. We inspect it, photograph the damage, write the estimate, talk to your insurer about the roof and do the repair. The claim is yours: you file it, usually on Shawn’s recommendation, and your insurer decides what is covered.

Shawn tries to be at the house when the adjuster comes.

Question 1 of 3

What happened and when, and what you have seen: missing shingles, dents, a leak. Say if an adjuster’s visit is already booked.

The words you will hear, in plain terms

A claim comes with its own vocabulary. These are the words that matter on the repair side.

  • Adjuster

The person your insurer sends to look at the damage and write up what the insurer will pay for.

  • The insurer’s estimate

The adjuster’s list of the work and what the insurer will pay for each line. It is the insurer’s figure. Our written estimate is a separate document, and it is the price of our work.

  • The written decision

Your insurer tells you in writing whether all or part of the claim is covered. Keep the letter and note the day it arrived.

  • Supplement

An addition to the insurer’s estimate for damage nobody could see at the first visit, most often rotted decking found once the old shingles are off.

How a repair goes when an insurer is paying

Six steps. You can stop after any of them.

  1. We inspect the roof.

No charge. You get photos of what we found and a written estimate of the repair.

  2. You decide whether to make a claim.

Shawn tells you whether he would. If you go ahead, you call your insurer or your agent. The photos and the estimate are yours to use.

  3. The adjuster visits.

Your insurer sends an adjuster to look at the roof. Shawn tries to be at the house to show where the damage we photographed is.

  4. Your insurer decides.

The decision comes to you in writing. The insurer decides what is covered and what it pays.

  5. You choose a roofer.

If you choose us, we set the date.

  6. We do the repair.

You pay for any upgrades you chose and any work your insurer did not cover.

What the adjuster’s visit is like

Your insurer sets the time with you. Most visits take about an hour. The adjuster looks at the gutters, the vents and the siding, goes up on the roof, measures the slopes and marks and photographs what they find.

Shawn tries to be there with our photos. He sets a ladder, points out the damage we found and answers the adjuster’s questions about the roof: how old it is, how many layers are on it, what the decking is.

The warranty

All work is backed up by our workmanship warranty.

Who does the work

Shawn Tabor inspects the roof, writes the estimate, talks to your insurer about the roof and tries to be at the adjuster’s visit. The repair is done by Tabor’s own crew.

What we do and what you do

A roofer repairs roofs. The claim belongs to the homeowner.

What we do

  • Inspect the roof, gutters and siding, free.
  • Photograph and measure the damage we find.
  • Give you a written estimate of the repair.
  • Talk to your insurer about the roof, and be there when the adjuster comes if we can.
  • Tell you if we find more damage once the old roof is off.
  • Do the repair.

What you do

  • Decide whether to make a claim. Shawn will tell you what he recommends.
  • File the claim with your insurer.
  • Talk to your insurer about your policy.
  • Choose your roofer. An inspection from us does not tie you to us.

Your insurer decides what is covered.

Questions about insurance repairs

Will my insurer pay for a new roof?

We cannot tell you that, and neither can any other roofer. We will tell you honestly whether we see storm damage and what it costs to repair.

Your insurer decides coverage. Questions about your policy go to your insurer or your agent.

Do you talk to my insurance company?

Yes, about the roof. Shawn sends your insurer what it asks for about the damage and the repair, and tries to meet the adjuster at the house.

Questions about your policy and what it covers are between you and your insurer.

What if my insurer says no?

Then the choice is yours: pay for the repair yourself, do part of it, or leave it.

If you inspect my roof, do I have to hire you?

No. The roof inspection is free. The photos and the estimate are yours whether you hire us, hire someone else or do nothing.
